About

An internationally orientated and well-travelled life forms the basis for Victoria’s creative approach and versatility. Intrigued by people, nature and different cultures, she continuously seeks new adventures and finds inspiration wherever she goes.

Victoria’s eyes were opened to the diverse world we live in at a very young age, having spent the first sixteen years of her life in South East Asia. She was always fascinated by the beautiful colours, faces and traditions around her. “I remember being entranced by all the national holidays that were celebrated in Singapore; Chinese New Year, Diwali and Hari Raya. It was a feast for the senses!”

As a child, Victoria’s biggest interest was always in the arts – music, dance, theatre, art – as long as she was performing or creating! Her creative education started at the United World College of South East Asia in Singapore but it was during her A-level years at Hurtwood House, a school in the English Countryside close to London, that she truly delved into the Fine Arts. “I spent hours down in the Art Department, learning new techniques and trying out different things. It was incredible to have access to so much material and just be able to make art whenever you wanted to. Everyone at Hurtwood was very creative, it was hugely inspiring!”

After school, a strong desire to live in her country of origin, where she had previously only spent holidays, brought her to university in Amsterdam. Here she graduated with a degree in History of Art and Cultural Studies. However, theory and books didn’t prove to be enough to quench her thirst and the continuous craving to develop creatively lead Victoria to join the Rietveld Academy and, subsequently, the Photo Academy, both in Amsterdam. She continues to develop her skills and techniques by participating in workshops and courses as she feels one should never stop learning.

Artistically, Victoria is driven by continually experimenting with different techniques and creating unique series of graphical prints and photographs. She isn’t afraid of varying and mixing unconventional ideas and materials with traditional techniques. For example, inking up embroidered materials and placing them under a traditional printing press, or re-using old graphics for new designs, thereby creating one-of-a-kind detailed prints.

“My art is an extension of how I perceive the world around me. Behind the lens, my eye is drawn to scenes of light, people, reflections, raw beauty … capturing a moment in time. In mixed media and prints, my art is a reflection of my inspiration and observations, filtered through layers of life and evolved over time.”
